Spain with its
regional diversity is home to a huge variety of food. From the green
north to the baking south the food of Spain offers a mouthwatering
array of hams, cheeses, seafood, game, fruit and vegetables.
Spanish food is mostly rustic but nowadays, many young chefs are
developing new ideas based around original recipes. The
differing climates of Spain have created regional dishes based
around the local products. The
northern regions are famous for their dairy products and the rugged
coastlines of Asturias and Galicia produce an abundance of seafood.
The extreme heat of the south is ideal for a whole range of
fruit and vegetables including oranges, peppers, figs and olives.
Food and wine from the regions are exported all over Spain.
The mussels of Galicia can be found in most Spanish supermarkets and
the famous cheeses of Asturias are now to be found hundreds of miles
from where they were produced. You can read about food from
the different areas in all our regional pages, click on the pictures
at the bottom of this page.
