The
staple diet in Murcia consists of rice, seafood, stews and
casseroles. The fertile areas of Murcia produce many varieties of
vegetables which are sold in the markets all over the region.
Local fishing is responsible for most of the region's seafood , both
the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor are a source for fish. The
Mar Menor has an abundance of eels which often appear on the
fishmonger's slab. The tourist industry provides the same sort
of food turned out by most establishments up and down the coast.
Murcia is not renowned for many specialities however a few of the
more local dishes are Revuelto: a dish of scrambled eggs runner
beans and ham usually served in tapas bars. Zarangollo: a type of
omelette served with vegetable. Ensalad Murciana: as the name
suggests, a salad, this one served with cooked red peppers,
aubergine and onion.

Paella
Paella is the
Spanish national dish and is eaten throughout Spain. Sunday
lunchtime is the traditional time to eat paella and all the family
troop down to their local restaurant and spend most of the afternoon
eating and drinking. Paella varies from region to region.
Paella originated in Valencia and the Valencian paella is still
regarded as the authentic version. It usually consists of a
mixture of seafood and chicken with either beans or peas. If
you'd like to try paella,
I've put my recipe here.
