SKIING HOLIDAYS IN
SPAIN
Well away from the
main ski resorts of Spain the Sierra Nevadas and the Pyrenees,
there is skiing available in Valdezcaray, the only ski resort in the
province of La Rioja. Valdezcaray is a medium sized ski
resort in the southwest of the province. The resort is in
on
the slopes of San Lorenzo Peak in the Sierra de la Demanda. The ski
station opens for the season at the beginning of November and
usually closes in April. The nearest town to the resort is
Ezcarray. There are a number of small villages in the area
where you can sample some of the region's local cuisine, washed down
by a bottle of, what else, Rioja! The ski station will
celebrate its 15th birthday in 2008. The main airport for the area
is near the capital
Logroņo.
