LOGROŅO

Logroņo is the regional capital of La Rioja.  It is situated on the banks of the river Ebro Spain's largest river. The city has a history going back to Roman times when it was a port city.  The Romans named the city Vareia .  Logroņo is now the main distribution centre for La Rioja's famous wines.  It is a modern commercial centre but with a lot of character.  There are plenty places of interest for the tourist, including parks and historic buildings.  The cathedral of Santa Maria is well worth a visit as is the large central square, where you can sit and have a coffee as the world passes by.
