LAS HURDES

Las Hurdes is probably best known for the 1933 film "land without bread" At this time, Las Hurdes was almost medieval, a village in the middle of nowhere.  Until the arrival of tarmac roads in the early 50's Las Hurdes remained poverty stricken.  This area of Extremadura is stark with a backdrop of black hills.  The area around Las Hurdes is now famous for its honey and wherever you travel in the area, beehives abound.
