GUADALUPE EXTREMADURA

Perched on a hill is the magnificent Guadalupe monastery. Founded in 1340 it was the starting point for the town of Guadalupe which grew around it.  The monastery and surrounding town are now a popular tourist attraction with thousands of visitors every year from across Spain.  Adjoining the monastery is a 16th century guest house, once frequented by royalty which is now run by the monks as a hotel.  There is a church and museums for which there are guided tours available.
