The Costa Dorada or Durada means gold coast. Miles of golden sandy beaches stretch from the Costa Brava down to the Costa Azahar along the coast of Tarragona. The main resorts of the area are Salou and Cambrils. Salou is the largest resort, just 15
mins from the airport of Reus, it is very popular with visitors from the UK. Salou is home to the large theme park Port Aventura. The resort itself is lively with plenty of restaurants bars and clubs. The long promenade is flanked by hotels and apartments on one side and the beach on the other.
The town itself is behind the promenade area, this is where the majority of bars and restaurants are situated. Salou is a good family resort with something to do for people of all ages.
The town of Reus 15 minutes inland is another world. Here you can see the real Spain, small town squares lined with tables and chairs where you can sit and have a drink and a tapas. There are elegant shops to browse around and the restaurants
serve mostly Catalan food. Beware when trying restaurants in this area, unlike Salou which has menu's in English, the majority of restaurants in Reus have menus in Catalan which are extremely difficult to understand. Not everybody speaks English, so you might find yourself ordering
something which isn't what you really wanted.

THE PORT OF CAMBILS

Cambrils has been transformed from a town to a resort and town. This is an interesting combination for a holiday. You can find everything you would expect from a Spanish resort holiday but with the added bonus of a bustling town complete with
markets, shops historic buildings and friendly locals. The town has a working port where the fishing boats unload their catch every day. Most of the catch ends up in the market where it is displayed in all its glory for the eager locals. |
