Atienza Spain is a medieval town situated to the north of Guadalajara in Castilla la Mancha.  It is dominated by the remains of a 12th century castle.  The caballada fiesta during whit, is an ancient festival of horses dating back to 1162.  There are horse racing events and a traditional meal of roast lamb on whit Sunday.  There is a religious art museum, the Museo de San Gill situated in the church of Santa Maria del Rey at the foot of the hill.
