Some people only
think of Spain as a place of beaches and sunshine,
as a rule
angling holidays don't spring
to mind . There is some excellent angling to be found in Castilla La
Mancha mostly in the area around
Ruidera.
The lagoons in Ruidera or
lagunas produce some fantastic rudd, pike, black bass, carp
and giant barbel (which can only be found in these waters)
There are angling holidays available to the area with a few
specialised companies offering the chance to fish these
waters. The area has a chain of lagoons each one offering a
unique angling experience.
Some lagoons are
off limits to anglers but your fishing guide will take you to the
best places. Some of the carp weigh over 40lb and compared to
the UK and France this area is under fished.
When you're used
to fishing in the nasty weather we normally associate with the
England it comes as a pleasant surprise to be able to wear shorts
and t shirts while pursuing your hobby. Not many people relate
Spain with barbel fishing but if you're looking for big barbel,
this is the place to come. These are not the barbel you'll find back
home and are monsters by comparison. There are also some large
pike available. The pike were only introduced relatively
recently (1950's) but some large specimens are now being caught.
