SEGOVIA

Segovia is home to some of the finest Roman remains in Spain.  The largest remaining Roman aquaduct spans the city and is the city's main tourist attraction.  The aquaduct was still in use up to the end of the 19th century, a magnificent testimont to the skill of the Roman craftsmen.

The beautiful old town is set high on a hill surrounded by the rivers Eresma and Clamores.  The imposing cathedral dates from the 16th century replacing the old cathedral which was destroyed in1520 during the revolt of the Castillian towns. The amazing Alcazar is perched like a Walt Disney castle high on a rocky crag.  Most of the building is new having been restored in 1862 but some of the old building still remains.  The famous suckling pig, a speciality of Castile and Leon is especially popular in Segovia and in some restaurants is cut with a plate.  There are some excellent restaurants and tapas bars and an atmospheric nightlife on hot summer nights.
