Santillana del mar is a beautiful medieval village in Cantabria thirty kilometers from the port of Santander.  This well preserved village with cobbled streets is one of the jewels in Cantabria's crown. Jean Paul Satre called this village the most beautiful in Spain, this could be argued but it is indeed an extremely picturesque place.  High on the tourist agenda, Santillana del mar has succumbed to some of the usual souvenir paraphernalia but not to the point of spoiling the village's medieval charm
