WALKING HOLIDAYS IN NORTHERN SPAIN

The North of Spain is known as the "green" Spain and not without reason.  Most people thinking of Spain, will conjure up images of scorching sun, beaches and sangria. Few people realise that there is a different Spain with wonderful scenery, mountains and rugged coastlines.  During the summer months, the temperature is cooler but not cold, which makes the area perfect for walking holidays.   There are a number of specialist companies offering walking holidays in Spain and  Nothern Spain is high on the list of areas.  The Basque Country has several places suitable for good walking, especially along the Costa Vasca and in the mountainous areas inland.  In addition there are guided tours around some of the region's larger cities. Coach tours often include the Basque Country as part of a wider tour of the north of Spain and although not strictly walking holidays, a fair amount of walking is involved exploring towns and villages in the area.  There are many historic monuments in the region which are well worth visiting.  The  Pyrenees are probably the favourite destination for walking holidays in Northern Spain.
