The city of
Ciutadella was ramsacked by a Turkish army in 1558, many of its
inhabitants were hauled back to Constantinople to work as slaves.
What was once a city full of historic buildings was left with just a
handful of monuments. Today Ciutadella is an impressive
city with a fine Gothic Cathedral, one of the few remaining
buildings untouched by the Turks. The plaza des Born is one of the
nicest squares in Spain. There are some lovely bars and
restaurants situated under the shade of tall palms.
The small port area is lined with restaurants and is a fantastic
place to sit and have a meal on a hot summer evening.
