PORTO CRISTO
Porto Cristo
on Majorca's northeast coast is a small resort famous for its
spectacular cave the "Caves of Drach" The caves are
considered to be some of the best in Europe and in the summer
months Porto Cristo is swelled to bursting point with tourists
from all over the island. The caves have a huge cavern
which sometimes features an orchestra and a beautiful lagoon on
which a small gondolier type boat sails past to the
accompaniment of classical music. I wish we could show you
some photos but unfortunately they have a no photograph policy
which is rigorously enforced. The town of Porto Cristo
itself is not over attractive, there are lots of souvenir shops
and some bars and restaurants. There is a very steep hill
leading into the resort from the main road and the roads in the
town always seem to busy with coaches. The seafront area
is very nice, there is a wide estuary flanked by cliffs which
opens out onto a sandy beach.
