There is something quite
magical about Majorca. At 1,400 sq ft, it is the largest of
the Balearic Islands. Majorca is considered to be one of the
most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean and remains
Europe's favourite holiday destination. The
scenery of Majorca is very diverse, from inland mountain
villages to some of the most stunning coastal resorts on the
med, Majorca has it all. The capital Palma is only 8
kms from the airport and is well worth a visit in its own
right. With the advent of the budget airlines, Palma
has become a popular destination for weekend breaks.
There are many popular holiday resorts on the island from
the up market
Pollensa
and the family resorts of
Alcudia and
Cala Bona to the
livelier
Magaluf.
The inland village of
Valldemosa,
is set amongst beautiful mountain scenery. It
was made famous by the composer Chopin, who stayed with his
lover George Sands in 1838. The town of
Soller
is famous
for its small gauge railway with wood paneled carriages
which travels through a gorgeous scenic route. An ideal way
to explore the island would be to hire a car for a
couple of days. In two days you would have time
to visit most of the island's beauty spots and get an idea
of what it has to offer. People return to Majorca year
after year because of its unique atmosphere and the wide
variety of holidays available. Majorca caters for most
tastes, from tranquil villages and converted farmhouses to
lively beach holidays.
