In the early
seventies, a group of hippies, tired of being hounded out of
places on the mainland, made their way to Ibiza. At the
time, Ibiza was only just gaining status as a holiday resort
and was completely underdeveloped compared with the Ibiza we
know today.

The hippies were
tolerated by the locals and soon began small scale production
of jewelry and other trinkets to sell to the small band of
tourists who were finding their way to the island. This
developed to the point where a small market established itself
in the resort of Es Cana. The popularity of the
market grew and before long Es Cana was on the tourist route,
with coaches arriving every week from all over the island.
The market is now a purpose built area and although
a few of the original hippies still remain, unfortunately,
tourist junk prevails. The resort itself is small and
family orientated. The beach is good and there are
plenty of bars and restaurants. The larger resort of
Santa Eulalia is about a mile down the road, well within
walking distance.

Being a
small resort Es Cana only has a few hotels and apartments.
A better option would be the larger family resort of Santa
Eulalia about a mile down the coast . It is quite
easy nowadays to book your own Ibiza flight and hotel online.
The budget airlines Ryannair and Easy Jet, have made the
island a much cheaper destination than it was a few years ago
and hotel price comparison sites have made the job of finding
a good hotel at the right price easier than ever. Hotels
Combined is one of the best hotel price comparison sites on
the internet. They check prices from all the major
online booking agents and display the results in an easy to
