San Fransisco is the island's capital. The 18th century whitewashed fortified church stands at the centre of the town. It was once guarded with canons which were placed on the roof to defend the inhabitants from invaders.  In the main square opposite the church, you can sit outside with a cold drink watching the locals sell their wares.
