Its hard to believe but a couple of hours from the scorching Costa del Sol, you can find some excellent skiing in the mountains of the Sierra Nevadas.  There are ski resorts in six areas Veleta; Laguna De Las Yeguas; Borreguiles; Lomar Dilar, Rio Monachil, and Parador.  There are snow cannons available to back up the natural snowfall. The ski season in the Sierra Nevadas lasts from the end of November until the end of April, occasionally lasting in to May. There are plenty companies specialising in skiing holidays in Spain  with some concentrating on skiing holidays in the Sierra Nevadas.  Apart from Switzerland  Spain is the most mountainous country in Europe, so perhaps it isn't so surprising to discover winter sports so close to the Mediterranean.
