GRANADA
Granada is one of Spain's most important cities. It is home to
the spectacular Alhambra palace perhaps the most outstanding example
of Moorish architecture in Spain. The Alhambra palace is one
of Spain's most popular tourist attractions and will take up the
best part of a day to explore. There are numerous guided tours
to cater for people from all over the world. From the walls of
the palace the snow capped Sierra Nevada mountains form a stunning
backdrop on one side with an elevated view of the city on the
other. Because of the extremely high summer temperatures, it
would be wise to avoid visiting during July and August.
Granada itself is a busy university city which is set on two
levels. The upper part contains a beautiful park area complete
with fountains and gardens. The main hub of Granada has
a maze of narrow streets many of which open out onto secluded
tree lined squares filled with restaurants and tapas bars.
There is one square in particular which seems to be home for the
regions bird population. The birdsong is almost deafening.
THE
GRANADA FLOWER FESTIVAL

There are flower stalls magnificent buildings and designer shops.
With the advent of the budget airlines Granada is now a popular city
break destination. On the outskirts of Granada just past the
bus station there is a very nice campsite which also contains a
small apartment block.
This is extremely
handy for exploring the city without the hassle of driving into the
centre. The bus into the centre of Granada is just a couple of
minutes walk away and runs very regularly. There
are a number of fiestas which take place in Granada every year,
these include the flower festival held every September and the
Fiesta de Reconquista held on the 2nd of January to commemorate the
ousting of the Moors on the 2nd January 1492. Click below for webcam
