Golfing holidays on the
Costa del Sol have been extremely popular for years. The
quality and sheer amount of courses to choose from, not
forgetting the fantastic climate, makes the Costa del Sol
the most popular area of Spain for a golfing holiday.
The year round mild climate means it is possible to play
most days of the year. From the beginner to the
professional, there are courses to meet the demands of most
players. The area around Marbella and Puerto Banus has
some beautiful and challenging courses including the Cabo
pino designed by Juan Ligues, a modern eighteen hole course
located slightly inland with fantastic sea views. It has 18
holes Par 71 and is 5,170 meters in length. The Aloha
designed by Javier Arana is set in fantastic surroundings
with a few hills and some tricky holes. This is a
natural course 18 hole par 72 length 6,261 meters
which is extremely well maintained. The Las Brisas
golf club designed by Robert Trent Jones is a 6,128 meter
course over 18 holes with a par 72 it offers a challenge for
the most experienced of golfers with plenty water hazards.
Los Aqueros Golf Resort
Not a beginners course.
The Guadalmina in Marbella has two courses, the south
course is one of the oldest on the Costa del
Sol. Neither of these courses are easy, they run
parallel to each other and have plenty water hazards.
Both courses are 18 hole with a par of 72, the north course
is 6,060 meters and the south 6,200 meters. They were
designed by Falco Nardi, and Javier Arana. The
La quinta golf and country club has three, 9 hole courses
which can be shared to form three 18 hole courses
again, not an easy course it was designed by Antonio Garcia
Garrido and Manuel Piñero. The length is 5,688 meters with a
par 72. Another good Marbella course is the Las Brisas
18 hole par 72, again designed by Robert Trent Jones and
featuring plenty water hazards, it is 6,198 meters long.
You can see by now that the Marbella area teems with golf
courses. Los Naranjos which means oranges is another
Marbella course. This course has some fairways lined
with orange trees (hence the name) making it important to
keep a straight line. It has 18 holes with a par of 72
and is 6,484 meters long. This course was also designed by
Robert Trent Jones who created over 500 courses around the
world. One of the most magnificent courses on the
Costa del Sol, is the fabulous Rio Real course in Marbella.
Named after the river Real which crosses it three times this
course is suitable for both the professional and less
able golfer. It was designed by Javier Arana, has 18 holes
par 72 and is 6000 meters long. Had enough yet?
This list of courses gives you some idea of the prolific
amount of golf available. There are more but we don't
want you to fall asleep.
Don't forget, this is
only the Marbella area, there are over sixty main courses
on the Costa del Sol with many smaller courses offering 9
holes. There are all inclusive golfing holidays or
you can rent a villa or apartment in the area and try out
a few different clubs and courses. .
