Having an all year round
mild climate, makes the Costa Blanca an ideal place for
walks. Within a short distance of the bustling holiday
resorts you can find tranquil countryside, mountains and
valleys. There are lovely coastal walks, small
villages to explore and an abundance of flowers birds and
other wildlife. The best time for walking is spring,
early summer and autumn, avoiding the searing heat of July
and August. You can find good coastal walks in many
areas, one I particularly like is the lighthouse walk in
Albir. This is 3.5kms of fairly easy walking along a
track which has been transformed into a well maintained
nature walk. There are slight inclines before you
reach the lighthouse and the walk takes you past some
spectacular sea views including a small bay popular with
sailors and the remains of a historic mine.
Inland areas suitable for
walking are abundant but for a truly unforgettable
experience, try the Jalon Valley in early spring when the
almond and cherry blossom carpet the whole area in pink.
The Jalon valley has many small villages to explore and you
won't be troubled by much traffic.

The area inland from
Benidorm including Guadalest, the waterfalls of Algar,
Finestrat, Relleu and Sella are all ideal for a stroll.
The long promenade stretching from Cala Marina to the Rincon
de Loix and passing through the old town of Benidorm
is extremely popular. The design of the new Poniente
promenade makes the walk seem easier. The once narrow
pavement is now large enough to accommodate hundreds
of walkers, roller skaters, cyclists and all manner of
unusual transport.

The area around the Terra
Mitica and Terra Natura theme parks has been designed to be
enjoyed by walkers and cyclists and there are miles of well
maintained tree and plant lined walkways stretching from the
road up to Finestrat all the way to the main road to La
Nucia. This area is particularly popular with dog
walkers.
