Spain offers a huge variety of terrain and varying scenery from the rugged coastlines of Cantabria in the North to the mountainous regions of the Costa del Sol and the Pyrenees villages. Think of Spain's Costa Blanca and most people will conjure up pictures of beaches, hot sun, balmy evenings and cool drinks. What a lot of people don't realise is the fantastic scenery a couple of kilometers inland from the main resorts and the fantastic opportunities there are for walking holidays.
Walking holidays are gaining in popularity and the opportunity to combine walking with the more mainstream sun and beach relaxation is hard to beat.

There are a number of companies specialising in walks in the Costa Blanca area. Most of these companies have a lot of expertise in the walking conditions which will be encountered and many offer guided walks with stop offs for picnics. Using a specialist company to explore the area can save many hours of trial and error for
people unfamiliar with the surroundings. There are also a number of books available giving detailed routes and stopping off places. A good option would be a holiday combining the resources of the resorts interspersed with days out into the countryside. Going it alone is another option, there are thousands of apartments to rent all along the Costa Blanca and hiring a car isn't expensive. Most of the main resorts have fantastic areas for walks within a few kilometers drive. Hundreds of small villages are dotted around, some offering mountainous
scenery. Walking between two villages a few miles apart can offer some breathtaking views of a Spain few people see. The area inland from Benidorm has no shortage of spectacular views and walks to suit the demands of most people. The villages of Finestrat, Relleu, Sella to name a few would make a perfect starting point for a short
stroll or a whole day of walking. Renting an apartment in the area enables the enthusiastic rambler to make up a sumptuous picnic the day before. If you've never been to this area, you are going to be pleasantly surprised. The hustle of the main resorts seems to be an eternity away and it isn't unusual to drive for miles without seeing
another car.
