The historic town of
Sagunto or Sagunt was invaded by Hannibal in the year 219
B.C. Sagunto is divided into three distinct areas.
The area containing most of the Roman remains is part of the
old town. There is also the new town and the beach
area known as Puert Sagunt. There are many
important archeological sites in Sagunto, including a well
preserved Roman amphitheatre built into the side of a cliff.
There is also a castle dating back to before the invasion of
Hannibal. Sagunto is one of the most visited sites on
the costa azahar, mainly because of it's historical
monuments but also for the miles of sandy beaches.
Sagunto lies 25kms Northeast of the capital Valencia so is
