Guardamar del Segura, stands at the mouth of the river Segura at the Southern end of the Valencian community near Torrevieja. It is noted for its sand dunes which are protected by pine forests. The area is very fertile and is surrounded with fields of orange groves and almond trees. There is a long sandy beach and most types of water sports are catered for including scuba diving. The local fishing is said to be excellent. The historic town of Guardamar dates back beyond the 4th century b.c and has retained a lot of its original character.
