Guadalest
Perched high on a cliff is
the picturesque and highly unusual village of Guadalest.
Guadalest is approx 26kms inland from Benidorm. In Spanish,
Guadalest means eagles nest and it's easy to see how the
name came about. Guadalest is now one of the
must see places for the tourist trips. At the summit,
the turqoise green of the lake below stands out like an
emerald set against the backdrop of the mountains beyond.
There are arts and crafts shops selling goods which are of a
higher standard than the usual tourist paraphernalia.
For whatever reason, there are about half a dozen museums
which isn't bad for a town of this size. These include
a museum of torture (not quite sure how this fits into a
pretty tourist town) and a minature museum i.e the exhibits
are tiny not the museum. The road to Guadalest used to
be full of hairpin bends over mountains but now a new road
runs from one of the roundabouts on the road from Benidorm
to La Nucia cutting the journey in half.
