Although Gandia isn't a mainstream holiday resort, it is still well worth a visit. The city of Gandia with a population of over 55,000 stands in an area surrounded with orange groves and mountains. Gandia has an expansive harbour which boasts a thriving fishing industry. There is a large sandy beach which is very popular with the locals The city centre has many shops bars and restaurants and amongst other attractions, the Santo Duque palace in the old centre is a good place to visit for history buffs. Gandia is situated about 100 kilometres north of Alicante.
