Cullera
Cullera on the Costa
Aazahar lies on the bank of the river Xuqer at the
base of the Sierra de las zorros mountain, which
shelters the town from northerly wind. The river
estuary splits the bay into three areas. There
are some nice sandy beaches including Raco, San
Antonio and Santa Marta. North of the lighthouse
is a 2km long beach which is often empty.
Cullera has a paved promenade area flanked by holiday
apartments ,bars and restaurants. Around the town are
large freshwater lagoons, some of which are notable
for their eel and carp fishing . There is
a rice industry in Cullera and also a museum of rice.
Local cuisine is heavily influenced by the Valencian
rice dishes like Paella. At the
summit of the town are the remains of a medieval
castle. Cullera is only 38kms from Valencia,
making it easily accessible for tourists wishing to
explore the Costa Azahar. The area is made
up of orange groves, rice fields, and almond trees, it
has an average yearly temperature of 17c. |
