The Costa
Blanca
Only a couple of
hours flight from the uk, the Costa Blanca is one of
the most popular tourist destinations in Spain.
The Costa Blanca has one of the best climates in
Europe with around 320 days of sunshine a year.
The Mediterranean diet of fruit, vegetables, olive oil
and fish is now recognised as one of the main
reasons people living in the area have fewer diseases
and live longer. The World Health Organisation
classified the area as the healthiest place in
Europe to live. The majority of the population
live on the coast, with only small towns and villages
further inland. Costa Blanca resorts include
Benidorm,
Spain's most popular tourist destination. The
majority of the Costa Blanca's main holiday
destinations are to the north of the region's main
airport Alicante. South of the airport the area
is popular with second home owners who populate large
areas of the coast in places like
Torrevieja.
Food and drink
although more expensive than a few years ago, is still
relatively cheap compared to the uk and many other
European countries. A bottle of (drinkable) wine can
still be found for under a euro. Fruit and veg is
still incredibly cheap from the markets and if you
enjoy eating out, you can find "meal of the day" at
many restaurants for around 10 euros, which includes
three courses and wine. A lot of people choose a
package when they decide to book their holiday
on the Costa Blanca but with the budget airlines
offering low cost flights to Alicante, a good
alternative is self catering in a private apartment.
There are hundreds of apartments and villas to rent up
and down the coast. In many cases you can deal
direct with the property owner and in today's economic
climate it may be possible to negotiate
substantial discounts. There are quite a large
number of property owners, advertising their
apartments and villas to rent on this website.

The Costa Blanca
boasts more blue flag beaches per square mile, than
anywhere else in Spain. Benidorm's Levante and
Poniente beaches are two of the best beaches in the
world and are kept clean by an army of workers day and
night.
