Alcoy is a fairly isolated
city which is famous for its Moors and Christian re
enactments.
Alcoy is known as the city of
bridges. The main resource of Alcoy is it's
textile industry which remains one of the largest in
Spain. Alcoy is also one of the
destinations for the famous "blanket trips" .
Blanket trips are free coach excursions which are used
mostly by pensioners on holiday in Benidorm and
other resorts to buy special blankets from the
factory outlet. Alcoy's remoteness removes it
from the agenda for most tourists and so it remains
very Spanish. There are a few places of interest
but apart from the Moors and Christians festival there
is nothing much to tempt the tourist away from the
beaches. Alcoy is approximately 40 kms inland
from Benidorm. Although Alcoy is not a holiday resort,
there are some cheap apartments available to rent and
also a couple of hotels.
