ALBIR

Albir is a small resort a couple of miles north of Benidorm.  The main road into Albir runs through the centre of the town and is flanked on either side by restaurants and bars.  A large amount of money has been invested in Albir in recent years and improvements are being made everywhere.  The promenade has been totally renewed and the whole seafront area has been upgraded.  This has had the knock on effect of improvements being made to the bars and restaurants lining the promenade of which there are now a wide variety. Albir is gradually going up market which appears to have been a conscious decision.  At the moment the playa de Raco de l'Albir beach is rocky but I don't think it will remain that way for much longer.  After so much has been invested, It seems almost certain that the beach will soon be sand.  A couple of kilometers of strolling down the promenade  will bring you into Altea .   The views across the bay are quite stunning.  If you turn right off the main road when entering the town from the N332, you can drive up to a small parking area which is adjacent to the entrance of the lighthouse walk.   This is a 3.5 km pleasant cliff  walk .  The views are fantastic and the walk isn't too strenuous.  Everybody you pass on the walk says "hola".  I've noticed recently that a lot of people are using something that makes them look as if they're going skiing.  These are two sticks which they use as if to propel themselves along similar to the crampons used by skiers.  All they appear to do is make the user look incredibly silly.   There are plenty apartments to rent in Albir most of the apartment blocks are situated off the main road which runs down from the N332 through the town centre.   There are also a number of newly built high quality hotels.  There is a frequent bus service (every 15 mins) between Albir and Benidorm which takes about 15/20 mins to the Levante area of Benidorm.  For golf lovers, there is a driving range and about 5kms away are the two fantastic new golf courses near the Terra Mitica complex.  The proximity of Albir to Benidorm makes it a viable alternative for anybody wanting somewhere quieter to stay but with all the amenities Benidorm has to offer, just a few minutes drive away.  The Albir junction on the N332  is probably one of the most confusing roundabout come traffic light systems ever devised.  This is what I describe as a half roundabout. Nobody seems to know what they should be doing.  Its good fun to watch but a nightmare for drivers
