Alicante is the
largest airport serving the Costa Blanca. At the moment it is in the
process of adding a new terminal building and hotel. The
airport serves holiday resorts up and down the coast from Torrevieja
to Denia and Javea including the Costa Blanca's largest resort
Benidorm. The smaller Murcia airport
may be a better option for visitors to Torrevieja although fewer of
the budget airlines use it. Alicante airport is situated close to
the main coastal motorway. It takes approximately 40 minutes to
Benidorm and Torrevieja from the airport. There is now a
regular Alsa bus service between the airport and Benidorm

The only bus service to Torrevieja is from Alicante centre.
The hassle of getting from the airport to the centre of Alicante
whilst wrestling with a large suitcase, is not a particularly
exciting prospect and is not recommended.

Transfers
Taxi fares to the
coastal resorts are very expensive. The normal taxi fare to
Benidorm is now a whopping 70/80 euros one way and if you happen to
be staying in Denia, expect to pay over 110 euros! Some
private car operators, will do Benidorm for around 60 euros and
Denia for about 70 but this is still a big chunk out of your holiday
cash and if you're like me, I'm sure you'd rather be spending it on
a couple of good meals. Luckily for visitors to Benidorm, help
is at hand. The new
Alsa bus service runs
regularly from the airport to the centre of Benidorm and the new bus
station, for only 8 euros per person and
Resorthoppa
a private shuttle bus service
will take you from the airport direct to your hotel or apartment in
Benidorm, La Cala or Albir, for only £9.68 per person. This
works out cheaper than the Alsa bus service unless you don't mind
walking from the bus stop to your hotel. As well as the shuttle bus
service,

also provide private vehicle
transfers to Benidorm for £62.25
(vehicle and up to 4
people sharing) and a special
disabled vehicle service for £89.25 (vehicle
and up to 4 people sharing )
What About
Resorts Outside Benidorm?
If you are staying
in a resort north of Benidorm, use one of the the airport bus
services to Benidorm and then a taxi from there to your resort.
If you don't
fancy a bus plus a taxi,
Resorthoppa have private
services from the airport, to most destinations on the Costa Blanca
which work out cheaper than standard taxi rates.

Car Hire
One
alternative to the transfer services, is to hire a car. If you
think you can handle driving in Spain, you can pick up a car from
the airport from the likes of
EasyCar
 for
about £12 a day. Most of the
major car rental companies have offices at Alicante airport. Rates
may vary but there are some excellent deals to be had. When
choosing a car rental company, go for one of the big players
like
Avis or
EasyCar these are trusted
companies who are able to offer extremely competitive
prices because of their huge buying power. Don't be tempted by
the guys working out of vans in the airport car parks, they might
appear cheap but for peace of mind
you're much better off with a name you know. |
